The Washington Times reports that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi threatened investigations of the funding of people who oppose the building of a mosque near Ground Zero in New York City.
I thought dissent was a form of patriotism. If 60 % of the population of New York City (hardly a bastion of “conservative” thought) object to the building of the mosque (according to most recent polling), then somehow those New Yorkers are subversives? The families of the 9-11 victims are subversives? They need to be investigated? Silly me, I thought the First Amendment to the Constitution still applied today. I’m so naive, right?
Just for the record (for the umpteenth time) I fully realize that not all Muslims are terrorists. Muslims have the right to build a mosque wherever they want according to the zoning laws of local government. The same religious freedoms Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and Hindus enjoy in this country enjoy–Muslims should enjoy also. Muslims who wish us peace, and desire to live peacefully within the confines of a constitutional government that secures these rights to free speech are welcome here.
But is it wrong to ask some simple questions without being attacked–especially in light of the fact that we ARE at war with certain Muslims who want to murder us and/or subject our nation to Sharia law? Questions like “Who is funding the Cordoba Mosque? Why has the Imam of the mosque NOT condemned the terror organization Hamas? Why did they pick that particular sight? If they are so interested in peace and tolerance, why are they so insistent on building the mosque in an area that most Americans do want want them to build? Finally, why was a Greek Orthodox church that was destroyed in that area on 9-11 is NOT allowed to rebuild, but this 13 story mosque is?” Oh, but there I go again, inciting riots and anti-Muslim feelings. Nancy–ready for your investigation any time.
